Create stunning bottle openers by repurposing hollow knife handles. To begin, securely clamp the knife blade downwards in a vise and apply heat to the area where the blade joins the handle until the solder melts and runs out. Take precautions by standing to the side and wearing protective gear, as the solder may splatter. Use pliers to remove the now-detached handle and promptly cool it in water. Clean the handle as needed. Refer to the instructional video below for guidance on filling the hollow handle, and allow 24 hours for the cement to set completely. Not all silverware knives are hollow, so perform a quick “tap test” by tapping the handle against a metal surface. If you hear a “clink,” it’s likely hollow, while a “thud” indicates it’s filled.
